Gently undulating islands dot the horizon on calm seas, as we make our way into the Gulf of Carpentaria in search of mother Flatback sea turtles, as they commence their laying for the season. As we moor our boat in a serene nook off Cape York, we notice a baby croc bobbing about as if to welcome us. In reality, this baby croc is in training, waiting for the hundreds of flatback babies to hatch and scamper their way down to the water's edge that evening.
Unfortunately we did not get to see a mother flatback on this trip but what we did see made up for it! As the sun started to set, small movements started coming from the nests in the dunes.. a gentle rumbling..
